I know my A-1 has a flash sync of 1/60 and my Elan 7e has a flash sync of 1/125. Can anyone tell me what exactly happens when I shoot with this speedlite on manual while mounted on my Elan 7e? How about on the auto settings? (green, yellow, red) To be honest, I'm not quite sure how it works on my A-1 either. The Auto modes (color codes on the flash) use a sensort on the flash t determine how much light has bounced off the target and terminate the strobe prematurely when sufficient light occurs. That way all you need to do is set the right aperture for your film speed and let the flash do the rest. I have used a 199A and 299T strobe on my Canon T90 (as well as the F-1N and the T70), and they work very well. On the T90, you will still get synchronization at 1/250th shutter speed; the synch is dependent on the camera, and not the strobe. Canon camera manuals warn against using non-Canon strobes because of the voltages generated. I had an older Continental strobe, which I liked because it has a primary and secondary (fill) strobe for bounce photography. Canon warned against using this strobe on the F-1N, but it did work.
